X-Dome 1+ Update
Lots of questions about the X-Dome 1+ so I thought I'd combine it here:
**1) Are their updates for this batch**
Yes of course. There are updates for this batch, and probably every batch for years to come. We still update the X-Mid almost every batch and it is \~6 years in.
For this batch, the crossbar is changed to the thicker tubing not because it needs to be stronger, but because that lets us use the carbon insert instead of aluminum here, which resolves the final remaining spot where we sometimes see glue issues. We've been seeing 100% reliability for months with the 2P with this arrangement, and we expect the same for the 1+. This does add about 5 grams, but is also stiffer, so the tent can go into a bit higher winds before it needs the optional trekking pole supports.
We also found some new vent struts that are 1-2 grams lighter
**2) What is the new aluminum pole version?**
This was not available today, nor it is published on our site, but we are adding a new aluminum pole version. This is the same tent + aluminum DAC poles, except the clips on the fly are slightly larger to fit the different tubing.
The aluminum version of the 1+ will use DAC 8.7 and DAC 9.3 instead of Easton Carbon 3.9 and 6.3, which is very similar in strength. So it will provide similar sturdiness with the downside of a \~100g weight penalty, but the upside of being about $50 less.
The aluminum version of the 2P will use all DAC 9.3, so it is stiffer then the carbon version but the weight difference is closer to 150g.
We recommend the carbon version because we have the reliability in a good place now and it provides equivalent performance for less weight, but we know some people are just more comfortable with aluminum and/or they appreciate a more affordable model.
**3) Can I get aluminum poles for my current tent?**
The DAC poles seem to work fine with the regular carbon clips, so eventually current will be able to use that set if they wish when we can stock it as a spare part, but the aluminum version does use slightly larger clips. We won't officially recommend it to carbon pole owners because technically the clips aren't the perfect size, but it will be available as a spare part and does seem to work fine. There is a small risk in high winds the non-regulation clips might.
**4) When are there more? / I'm upset I didn't get one.**
For this batch we built about 30% with the aluminum poles, but those poles won't be ready for about 6 weeks, so we will have a restock on November 4 for the aluminum pole ones.
Then our next actual production run is expected in late December. That will be about 3x the size of this run and with a greater proportion with short poles, so we think everyone will be able to get one then. We have several of these large runs in early 2026 so we are working hard towards getting caught up, but with ordering materials etc almost a year in advance, it takes some time.
If you missed out today and can't wait, we will have the X-Mid's back on Friday, the X-Mid Pro is in stock now, and the X-Dome 2 is in stock in one version.
Thanks for your support and patience.
